Author: Wendy Skorupski

My elixir of life is playing the piano and writing. I couldn’t live without either of those two dimensions! My two latest novels, 'Once Upon a Thousand Hills' and 'Infinite Stranger', are available on Amazon. I had an international upbringing in Cyprus and Vienna, and finished my higher education in England, qualifying as a Music and English teacher. I work in the field of international education, dividing my time between Krakow, Wroclaw, London and Liverpool. But I am mainly based in Krakow, my beloved fairytale city!

Falling in love again … and again and again …

Falling in love again. That’s what the sultry Marlene Dietrich sang, way back in the nineteen-thirties. 70-plus years on, she might as well still be singing the same words. I mean she’s right, isn’t she? We fall in and out of love again and again and again. Or is it just me? – in which [...]

The summer that never was

Here in Poland, tomorrow is the beginning of a new school year. That's a brutal landing back on earth for all us summer-addicts who work in education. It doesn’t necessarily mean that we hate our jobs or don’t want to go back to work; it just means we don’t want summer to end.  The word paradise comes [...]

New endings, new beginnings

New endings, new beginnings

Coming to the end of a good novel is rather like coming to the end of a good relationship. I suppose the main difference is that a good novel remains good right until the end, whereas a good relationship ...? Hmm. Logic says that it can’t be ‘good’ anymore by that stage, otherwise it wouldn’t [...]

Ten suggestions for gripping summer reading

I could easily have written a post about twenty suggestions for gripping summer reading, or even thirty, but I thought it best to keep it short. Each of the novels listed below has been selected either because of its beautiful writing, its compelling storyline, or in some cases, both. So here you are then, my [...]

How lockdown gave birth to a new novel

How lockdown gave birth to a new novel

My guess is that there are quite a number of people out there who have secretly been enjoying lockdown. And who are now feeling a little saddened that things are gradually getting back to normal as restrictions ease and country after country slowly but surely prepares to return to normal life. Of course there are [...]

Guilt – why do we put up with it?

Guilt – why do we put up with it?

This morning when I woke up, I randomly thought, 'Oh no, it’s three weeks since I wrote my last blog post! I have to write another one – and SOON!' I jumped out of bed in guilt-ridden panic. And then I stopped. And thought to myself, ‘Hang on a minute. Why exactly am I feeling [...]

Dogs in a Time of Corona

I love my dog and my dog loves me. That’s been my doggie mantra ever since all this corona-lockdown business hit our planet like the proverbial plague. Beforehand, it was more a matter of: I hate my dog and my dog hates me. Of course that’s not really true, just as it isn’t really true [...]
