Wronged One, Other One, or Both?

Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practise to deceive. How true, Mr Scott, how true! Let's face it, at some point in our lives most of us will experience at least one of those two states: being the wronged one, or the other one. Being deceived, or actively doing the deceiving - whether in our juvenile [...]

When Your Furry Friend Leaves You

This is not going to be one of my usual posts. My dog has died. No other way of saying it. I don’t like ‘passed away’. That’s a useless euphemism. My dog has died. Just two days ago. She’s gone, but I don’t know where. I don’t know if there’s a doggie heaven, or if [...]

Love, Thanksgiving and Dungeons

In case any of you are suffering from a touch of post-Thanksgiving blues, why don’t you come and join me here – in thought and memory at least, if not in person. I remember a very special Thursday in November, all of twenty-one years ago. My Philosopher-lover and I had been invited to an American [...]

Is Life One Long Game of Foreplay?

A bit lower… no, higher… to the left a bit… I said LEFT, not right… What? Oops – sorry, got a bit carried away there! Trying to find the right directions. You know, like on Navigator, which I hate to admit at times still frustrates me. Is that a sign of low intelligence? Or age? [...]

Letter to my Estranged Jailor

I need to say some things to you, whether you read them or not. You probably won’t. But that’s okay. Now that you’re gone, I can say what I like. You have freed me, even though I never asked for freedom. My words need no longer flutter against the cage of our desire. You once [...]

Sex for the Over-Fifties – Yuk or Yum?

Sex for the Over-Fifties – Yuk or Yum?

When I was thirteen, my father occasionally came to visit us for the weekend. There were a lot of things I assumed about his visits, back then. Like, for instance, the fact that he and my mother shared a bedroom only because there was no spare bedroom. They were, after all, separated. We lived in [...]

Marriage … beg your pardon?

Marriage … beg your pardon?

So here I am, sitting in my living room, all nicely curled up on the cushioned window seat in our old Krakovian house. I’ve got my laptop on my lap (well, duh, as the Americans say - and right now I love all things American, as my previous blog clearly indicated), and my brain cells [...]

Wendy Skorupski

My elixir of life is playing the piano and writing. I couldn’t live without either of those two dimensions! My two latest novels, 'Once Upon a Thousand Hills' and 'Infinite Stranger', are available on Amazon. I had an international upbringing in Cyprus and Vienna, and finished my higher education in England, qualifying as a Music and English teacher. I work in the field of international education, dividing my time between Krakow, Wroclaw, London and Liverpool. But I am mainly based in Krakow, my beloved fairytale city!
