Living in the Past or the Future – which is worse?

Living in the Past or the Future – which is worse?

The summer holidays are drawing to a close. A pretty banal statement, you might think? Not if you work in the field of education, as I do, or if you’re still in the process of being educated - which we all were, once upon a time, right? That is, unless you happened to be brought [...]

When love and promises flutter away

When love and promises flutter away

I recently read an interview with a writer who said that she far preferred fictional love stories to real life. The longer I live, the more I agree with that sentiment. I guess that’s why some people write, and some people read, and some people do both. And some people are really, really lucky, and [...]

Publishing this novel could get me in trouble…

Publishing this novel could get me in trouble…

After two and a half years of slaving away at my latest novel, it is now, at long last, available on Amazon! (Please forgive the surfeit of exclamations and hyperbole in this post.) I’m sure that all fellow-writers will empathise with the blood, sweat and tears that go into the planning, creating, first draft, and [...]

Wronged One, Other One, or Both?

Wronged One, Other One, or Both?

Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practise to deceive. How true, Mr Scott, how true! Let's face it, at some point in our lives most of us will experience at least one of those two states: being the wronged one, or the other one. Being deceived, or actively doing the deceiving - whether in our juvenile [...]

Letter to my Estranged Jailor

Letter to my Estranged Jailor

I need to say some things to you, whether you read them or not. You probably won’t. But that’s okay. Now that you’re gone, I can say what I like. You have freed me, even though I never asked for freedom. My words need no longer flutter against the cage of our desire. You once [...]

DANGER – Attacker Ahead!

DANGER – Attacker Ahead!

Before I get to the horrible bit in this blog - I mean the bit on that dark lonely street in Birmingham - let’s start all nice and innocently, shall we? September: season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, according to Keats. Children and teenagers back at school, summer almost over. Another year in the cycle [...]

School Reunions: Do They Look Backwards or Forwards?

School Reunions: Do They Look Backwards or Forwards?

I’ve recently come back from a school reunion in Vienna. A reunion celebrating not just one year group, but a whole decade that is now nostalgic to those who remember it, and retro to those who weren’t even born yet. Or just being born. Okay, so that rather dates me - but I’m being brave [...]

Wendy Skorupski

My elixir of life is playing the piano and writing. I couldn’t live without either of those two dimensions! My two latest novels, 'Once Upon a Thousand Hills' and 'Infinite Stranger', are available on Amazon. I had an international upbringing in Cyprus and Vienna, and finished my higher education in England, qualifying as a Music and English teacher. I work in the field of international education, dividing my time between Krakow, Wroclaw, London and Liverpool. But I am mainly based in Krakow, my beloved fairytale city!
